Axial Thermal Profile Sensors (ThermoLine™)

ThermoLine™ products are designed for axial thermal profile measurement along a line, such as a pipeline. Axial thermal profile sensors actually consist of a series of FBG temperature sensor (FBG-TS) in single fiber cable with each FBG-TS having a specific central wavelength. Such a fiber sensing cable length ranges from a few meters to kilometers while the sensing points can be from a few tens to a few hundreds. These FBG temperature sensors can be grouped in different numbers for specific location measurements with different sensing spacings or spatial resolutions. It is feasible to have sensing spacing as small as 5-10mm (0.005- 0.01m) for some special application where high-density thermal profile measurement is desirable.

The fiber sensing cable diameter ranges from 1/64", 1/32", 1/16", 1/8", to 1/4". To meet different needs from industrial applications, several sheath material could be used for fiber sensing cable package, such as polymer based capillary [Teflon (200C), PVC monocoil (70C), Peek (250C), PVDF (100C), Silicon monocoil (250C), and Polyimide (300C) etc.], and metal based capillary [Stainless steel (500C) and Inconel small tubes (800C) etc.]. The fiber sensing cable can be installed along an industrial structure with a minimum curve radius of 2-4". However, the fiber sensing cable also can be installed in a small industrial system by wrapping the fiber sensing cable around section of interested system.

Thermal profile measurement can be used for monitoring static thermal variations at typical 1Hz data rate. It is also designed for dynamic thermal events measurement at 250Hz-5kHz range for some special application where the transient thermal profile variation measurement is desirable. The data transmission can be directly connected to customer's intranet for remote monitoring and control.

Surface thermal profile sensors actually consist of a series of fiber sensing cables while each single fiber sensing cable may consist of a few tens to a few hundreds fiber Bragg grating-based temperature sensors (FBG-TS). It is feasible to have sensing spacing as small as 5-10mm (0.005-0.01m) for some special surface application where high-density thermal profile measurement is desirable. These fiber temperature sensors can be grouped in different numbers for specific geometric surface measurements with either equal or noequal sensing spacing configurations. The number of FBGs and sensor spacing will be based on customer specified position.
